Good and evil

source: ādāb uz-zafāf ~ the etiquettes of wedding ~ chapter no. 2

The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: “If one of you marries a woman or buys a slave, then let him take hold of her forelock…and supplicate for (Allāh’s) blessing and say:
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ خَيْرِهَا وَخَيْرِ مَا جَبَلْتَهَا عَلَيْهِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهَا وَشَرِّ مَا جَبَلْتَهَا عَلَيْهِ
(O Allāh, I ask You for her good and the good of the natural tendency with which you created her, and I seek refuge in You from her evil and the evil of the natural tendency with which you created her)
And if he buys a camel, then let him take hold of the top of its hump and say the same as that.”[1]

Shaykh al-Albānī comments:
“I say, there is evidence in the hadīth that Allāh is the Creator of good and evil, contrary to one who says – from among the Muʽtazilah[2] and others – that evil is not from His creation, the Blessed, the Most High, and that there isn’t a Creator of evil in the Existence of Allāh, which contradicts His Perfection, the Most High. Rather, it is part of His Perfection, the Blessed, the Most High; a detailed explanation of that is present in large volumes, and from the best of them is the book ‘Cure for the Sick with regard to al-Qadā wa l-Qadr[3] and the Explanation’ by Ibn ul-Qayyim, so let whoever wishes consult it.
And is this duʽā (supplication) legislated with respect to buying something like the car? My answer is: yes, when its good is hoped for and its evil is feared.”
